FAQ

All bunnies are given a dose of bene bac at 3 weeks of age when they show interest in pellets. They are also given acid pack (helps with enteritis) and probios in their water to help with transitioning  from their mama's milk to pellets and hay. At around 6 weeks they are given panacur paste for worming and toltrazuril for coccidia prevention (this is spread out over a week). They are fully weaned from their mama at 6 weeks of age.

When taking your new baby home, you will receive a ziplock bag of Blue Seal Show Hutch Deluxe 17 pellets. You can keep them on this brand or decide ot switch them to your preferred feed. However, this is a very good quality feed and I do not recommend feeding them any colorful food or any feed that has other grains mixed in. All they need is a pellet based food and their hay. They are raised on timothy or orchard grass hay.Do not give your bunny anything besides their pellets and hay until they are 6 months old. Holland lops have a very sensative stomach and digestive system and giving them anything else besides their basic feed before this age could result in Gl Stasis, a very serious disease in their intestines that can lead to death.

Once they reach 6 months old, slowly introduce fresh veggies, leafy greens, and fruit, but only give them spairingly to alow their system to adjust to the new treats given to them. Only give this to them once a week as too much sugary veggies and fruits aren't good. Some of these foods you can give them are: spinach, kale, swiss chard, mustard beet colard greens, parsley (all these leafy greens are high in oxalate, so give them spairingly), basil, mint, cilantro, dil, spring mix, red or green leaf lettuce (no iceburg), romaine lettuce, arugula, endive, dandelions, carrots (small pieces due to being a sugary veggie), celery, squash (small pieces), zucchini (small pieces), apples (small slice due ot being high in sugar), banana slice, strawberry (small piece due to sugar), and blueberries. Please do not give them broccoli, cauliflower, or cabbage as these are gassy foods that they cannot consume.

Some items that is good to keep on hand for their care is probios which is a probotic that you mix in their water (can be found at tracor supply), critical care (can be found at amazon) for Gl Stasis or if they go of feed, apple cider vinegar with the mother for their water, electrotyes for their water during the summer months to help with water intake (can be found at local farm stores or online), worming paste such as Ivermectin, Safeguard, or Panacur (all these are found in the horse section at your local farm store. Only pea size amounts for adults and a small dab for babies), tolturazil 5% for coccidia prevention (can be purchased online at horse supply websites), brush / combs and cat nail clippers for grooming, terramycin ophthalmic ointment for eye infections, and vetericyn for wounds or scrapes.

To help keep their teeth worn down, make sure you give them an unlimited supply of hay and also provide them some type of chew sticks as rabbits love to chew. We usually give ours fresh sticks from our apple and pear trees. Please do research on safe trees for rabbits to chew on before you just randomly give them any stick.
